Not an exercise but the real thing
It's Wednesday, so I was out walking as usual with the Haltwhistle Walkers. Brian W took us on a lovely walk from Bardon Mill, passing Vindolanda, up onto Barcombe Fell and back through Beltingham.
It was a glorious autumn morning with a nip in the air. Just after coffee there was a message on the walkie talkie at the back to say that one of the group was ill. He thought he was hypo. (Pretty tricky since he had just had a banana and his coffee, but there you go.)
We are usually well supplied with medics and nurses, so we were able to leave it to Steve and Lesley to do the honours. It soon became apparent that the patient had low BP. He improved when laid flat with his feet raised - and a Mars bar had not helped at all!! I promised I would not photograph him in any way to embarrass him. Here you can see that a space blanket had been deployed and the group is waiting for a friend to arrive by car. He had to bring it along the field track to where we were, having taken delivery of this spotless item just last week!
I'm glad to say that the patient recovered fully, spending most of the rest of the day being checked out in A & E. He was brought to the pub to see us all later.
Just as well to be prepared..........
