Mexican Time

There are many in the United States who feel Mexicans are less than productive. They do after all take mid-day siestas, spend hours over a meal, seem to have little regard for timely arrival, and often put the needs of their families ahead of the need to complete a task. It is generally referred to as Mexican time. When immersed in their culture, however, one sees a very different side of Mexican time. I already wrote about the quick clean-up efforts after Tropical Storm Manuel, but this photo showcases the more ambitious side of Mexican time. Five days ago, this hillside was overgrown by jungle vegetation so common in undeveloped areas. For two days, crews of workers cleared the underbrush with machetes and then big machinery arrived to cut roads and remove trees. Less than a week later, the site is prepped for building who knows what. Will probably see structures started by this time next week.
