Cumhuriyet Bayramı

In Turkey for a few days of rest and relaxation with Sons 1 and 2, Tara and cousin A. From the moment we set foot in Bodrum (prior to spending a bit longer at the airport than planned due to a delayed transfer) it was noticeable that there were national flags everywhere. This turned out to be due to today being Republic Day here and the hotel is still celebrating as I type; it's all very jolly. On this day in 1923 the Ottoman Empire was formally dissolved. The new Turkish state maintained the last flag of the Ottoman Empire but tweaked it a bit in 1836. Our room is over to the right of the flag pictured and has a nice sea view.

Anyway, plans for tomorrow involve hanging out around the hotel pool and consuming as much of the free food and drink as we can manage.
