Saddell Bay II

This afternoon, after the heavy showers abated and the sun started to appear from behind the clouds, Mrs B and I headed down to Saddell for a walk along the beach.

As it was only mid-afternoon, I hoped the sun would be shining through the trees that line the long avenue leading to the castle, illuminating the autumn colours in the leaves. However, it was not to be. Even allowing for the clocks going back, the angle of the sun was lower than it was last week and it was hidden from the trees by the hill behind them. Never mind, at least the sun was breaking through on the beach and Mrs B enjoyed skimming stones as I got on with blipping.

The BBC2 Landward programme on Kintyre, which I mentioned in my journal back on August, was broadcast on Sunday. Its worth watching and is available on the BBC iPlayer until Sunday. Anyway, in the programme there is reference to Paul McCartney recording the video for Mull of Kintyre on Saddell Beach in the 1970s. I watched it after the programme and was amazed how little the place had changed. This is the little cottage that Lynda McCartney appears from while Paul sits on the fence in front of it strumming his guitar.

As we were leaving the beach I was approached by another blipper who had found a lens cover and wondered if it was mine. Transpired he was on holiday at Loch Long and had travelled down with his friends just to see the beach where this famous video was recorded.

I can think of a blipper who might just be humming a certain tune at this point!
