Backblip

Dame Doyle looking out the window at the swirling fall leaves and enjoying the fresh air. One of the first normal things she's done in over a week.

Sorry for the previous gloomy blips, I was so tired and poor Doyle kept getting bad news. We went for her checkup on Thursday, the vet agreed she was doing better but not quite there yet so they gave a her a steroid shot, anti nausea and antacid shots. That night there was a change, not for the better.

Friday first thing I rushed her in because her breathing had changed overnight. They gave her some fluids, back on pain meds. Another shaved patch on her bod where they took a large blood draw for more testing.

Friday evening I get a call that the preliminary tests are back and there's been a white blood cell increase, she has an infection and she needs antibiotics, so back we go to the clinic. While we were there I asked them to do the full body scan (x-ray type thing) that we'd discussed that morning but they'd held off doing in case she rallied.

The scan revealed a lot of worrying questions that haven't been answered yet as we are still waiting the radiologist's report. Results of the rest of the blood work are still pending too.

What a horrible week it had been for Doyle, 36 hours at DoveLewis (emergency pet hospital), then three trips in two days to the vet.

As of taking this picture of her on Monday afternoon she's finally starting to perk up a little and exhibit some of her normal habits.

As an aside, I've noticed that the vet nearly always will inject an animal with whatever meds necessary. If you have an animal that is impossible to give pills or liquids to, either by hand or hide in their food, as I was experiencing with Doyle once she was compos enough, I asked them to show me how to inject her with the antacids myself at home and they agreed. It was so much easier and then I knew she was getting her full dose and she was not bothered at all by my injecting her either.

Commenting will be patchy but I'm finding I need the daily ritual of blip more than I had expected. I've been looking at your wonderful pictures and will check in when I can. x
