Constant Velocity Joint Paper Weight
My favorite gearhead paperweight sculpture seems to have become totally obsolete, except as a paperweight.
Sitting on my desk for many years, the complex machining of the metal required to create this device, as well as the action of the component parts, has never failed to fascinate me.
This is the joint that allows a front wheel drive car’s front wheels to have the engine power them as they move side to side to steer the car.
I ran across a very cool, extremely important “revolutionary” constant velocity joint, the Thompson Constant Velocity Joint.
The number of front wheel drive cars, multiplied by two is just one sizeable market for these gizmos.
Always something new to think about.
