the day after the big storm

Last night the storm hit, slept through it and woke to blue skies and a good day ahead.

We walked in the New Forest before deciding to drive down to Milford on Sea to look at how the sea was looking the day after. It was still a bit windy and fresh. The pebbles on the beach had been thrown over the sea wall and onto the car park, but thankfully nothing was damaged.

We went to walk to Hurst Castle but the Spit was closed down, by the coast guard, whilst a navy bomb disposal team were removing old war bomb material off the beach. Apparently it is not unusual after a storm that the sea churns a few more up.

The coastguard told me that after the war the forces took a lot of armoury over to the IoW for disposal. They reckon when the sea was too rough to cross they dumped them in Milford beach !!

The shape of Hurst beach had totally changed over night. Yesterday it had a shelf before the beach, today the shelf is gone. The sea can be so powerful.
