TIPPING THE SCALES

Judging by his size, I think this squirrel will get through the winter just fine! Of course if he’d ever catch on to the peanut feeder, he’d be a happy camper all winter. My best picture today was of a tufted titmouse, but I blipped one recently – in an almost identical pose, so this hefty hunk gets the nod today.

For the first time since early spring, we saw the hawks again today. A few of you might remember when I first started blipping in April, I was disappointed to find that no birds or small animals were around – living on the edge of the woods, I expected to have plenty of little animals to blip. We finally realized the little creatures were gone because a hawk family lived close by. Then in early August the birds started arriving, along with squirrels and chipmunks, etc. – and we didn’t see any more hawks. This afternoon we were working on fall cleanup in the yard when a screeching hawk flew in close – and I haven’t seen a bird since! I sure hope they haven’t returned.
