The Stein Estate Entrance

Our main goal for today was to drive to Hønefoss where our youngest son is at college. His bike was stolen last week, and since I don't use mine a lot, we decided he could have mine. On our way we passed this a farm that has some interesting history - for us Norwegian anyway...

King Halfdan the Black was the father of king Harald I of Norway (also known as Harald Fairhair) who united the kingdom. King Halfdan's second wife and the mother of Harald came from the Stein Estate. According to the saga, when king Halfdan the Black died, he was so popular that every district wanted his body. As a result his body was quartered; his head was buried in the mound at the Stein estate.
