Ue o Muite Arukou (Sukiyaki)
by Kyu Sakamoto
10 days ago I had a very touching moment, when in Tokyo at the dinner we were all singing songs from our home lands, and the Japanese chose to sing this. It was so nostalgic as I remembered this well from 50 years ago. I never realised the meaning of the words until I went to youtube to listen to the song once more, and found this version, which also contains the English translation.
This morning I remembered the words during my morning walk, and also remembered to look up, finding the wonderful looking mist coming in from the lake when I returned to the summer cottage.
