Wrote For Luck

Having just finished Terry Pratchett's short story collection I have picked this autobiography from my "unread shelve".

I always feel a bit sad when I finish reading a Pratchett book wondering how much longer we can continue to receive fresh material from the great man.

"Raising Steam~ is on it's way though so lets enjoy it while we/he can.

Happy Mondays were one of these irreplaceable bands - completely unique. Whether you love them or hate them, or just can't make any sense of them, they sounded like all great rock bands - like nothing else you had ever heard before and probably since.

A slicing, grating, cacophonous tribal rabble fronted by the virtually monotone drug addled ramblings of a man who more than likely didn't know what day it was and cared even less.

Happy Mondays were one of these bands that I was lucky enough to get into before they hit the mainstream awareness. Like so many bands these were the times when they were going through their most authentic period of production.

It was eventually through Paul Oakenfold's remixes that Happy Mondays were truly catapulted into the mainstream media outlets and ultimate success and Oakenfold is pretty up his own arse about it but for me that was the death knell of the Mondays.

WFL was their initial break through and this video which includes two promos includes Vince Clarke's outstanding remix with the infamous "Legends" (not The Factory) video starting about half way though.

I always thought that the bit where the band are lined up behind the table is like the Last Supper. Not sure what the intention was.
