Four-time Champion

Coverage of the Indian Grand Prix began at 8:30 am, so it was no great hardship to watch the race live, and important to do so because it was odds-on for Sebastian Vettel to wrap up the Drivers Championship today.

Red Bull rather cannily adopted different tyre strategies for their drivers, with Vettel starting on soft and Webber on hard tyres. The likeliest outcome according to the computer models and the human experts was that Webber would win the race, with Vettel second. As it happened, Webber failed to finish, and Vettel won. For the Championship to go undecided for at least one more race, Fernando would have needed to finish 2nd, but only managed 11th. So Sebastian Vettel is World Champion for the fourth year running, an achievement only previously managed by three other drivers, and he is the youngest by far of these four.

This was also his sixth win in a row, and his ninth of the season, so, with three races remaining, he could yet equal or break other records too. A great driver, a nice guy, and a worth Champion.
