Brooding castle

One of the delights of living in Edinburgh is when you realise you are living in the city. Some magnificent sights and buildings are seen so routinely that sometimes it takes a different angle or moment of light to appreciate what surrounds us.

Today when taking my mother in law to the shops we drove down Braid Avenue and the combination of the (unexpected) sunlight in the foreground and the castle shaded by cloud was so striking that I stopped for the shot.

Less than a minute later the the sun was on the castle and while a pleasant photo it was not the same.
