Hostelling International - Canada's Ottawa "Jail"

This hostel, the former Carlton County Gaol for over a century on Nicholas Street in downtown Ottawa, was purchased by Hostelling International in 1972. It has historical significance in the history of Ottawa and Canada. It was the site of several executions and is said to haunted.

Over time, I have stayed in three different rooms. Although I wouldn't claim to be psychic, I have some really negative feelings about the central stairway in the building. (no elevator in this place!)

Much of the original structures have been maintained and tours are given.
