The New Jetty

The new Holy Isle jetty represents a quantum leap forward in the Centre for World Peace and Health's ability to deal with a) more visitors and b) the vagaries of the Lamlash Bay tides. Today I took Alison R'a advice and sat out on it, enjoying the tranquility and taking the opportunity to try to find the local seal. I heard volunteers working behind the Peace Hall, the water coming into the bay from the Firth of Clyde, but never caught renewed sight of the seal.

Many of Alistair's 2012 alumni agreed we missed the character of the old jetty - now replaced by a largely ineffectual breakwater. There's no reason why the old couldn't have stood alongside the new, but change is change, and there's no doubt it's something the island uniquely encourages and facilitates. It's a magical place.
