Pound Jar

Ok, technically it's a tin. Hubby's mum gave us this tea tin (full of tea) years ago and now we use it for a savings tin. Whenever I have a couple of pound coins spare, they get stuck in here for something really good. Having a fish and chip budget but fine dining taste, this has come in quite handy on the last two times it's been emptied. Being a family of uber foodies, we love our twice yearly trip to the Ludlow Food festival and Spring festival and a highlight has always been Will Holland's demonstration. Being in the hospitality industry, I've been lucky enough to see a lot of demo's but Will's are my favourite. Just the right mix of 'cheffy' techniques and 'doableness' for the home cook. My daughter, Liberty, is a big fan too! We'd been desperate to go to Will's restaurant for a while but those that know us will know things have been tight for a few years. So, last autumn, I decided to launch the pound jar for a no holds barred slap up dinner at La Becasse. So, armed in my Sainsbury's frock, charity shop jacket and Vivienne Westwood handbag, off we went for the menu gourmand and matched wines (Liberty stuck to fruit juice). What a fab night it was too! It was with sadness, that we heard shortly after that Will was leaving La Becasse for pastures new after the September festival. Hubby got on the phone and booked a table for Will's last service at the restaurant, which happened to be the Sunday of the festival. This time funded by some extra work that hubby managed to do, it was an amazing meal. The plaice I had was probably the nicest main course I've ever had. So, since then I've been chucking the pound coins in the tin without a mission but today I found out that Will is opening his new place in Bridgnorth in spring next year. YAY!!!!! (Hope there's a campsite nearby) X
