It's Book Club night

“What's the point of having a book club if you don't get to eat brownies and drink wine?”
― Jami Attenberg, The Middlestein

Picking up my Welsh friend to go to Book club. She is the best read person I know - by miles- and when I came here from Glasgow 35 years ago she put a note through the door inviting me for coffee.
Book club is a fairly social affair with wine and biscuits - no home bakes though! Last month's read was 'The Dinner' by Herman Koch and next month's is 'Kabul Beauty School' by Deborah Rodriguez. We don't usually spend too much time discussing the read but I do find it forces me to pick up books I'd not otherwise try. Left to my own devices I'd devour endless murder/detective stories, preferably set in foreign countries.
