Hollywood comes to Deepcut
This is St Barbara's Garrison Church, Deepcut; a Grade 2 listed "Tin Tabernacle", which I pass most days travelling to and from work. I keep meaning to stop to take some photos, but somehow there has always been some excuse to continue my journey: too dull; too bright; too late.....too lazy
However, the last few weeks have been a hive of activity, and for a while I was afeared that the church was being closed with the departure of the Army from the Deepcut Barracks which are due for redevelopment (as a "new village" with around 1000 houses, subject to planning permission - umm!). However a quick google of showed that it protected and safe. So what was going on?
A few days later, all became clearer with the appearance of lights, media lorries and the like, plus road directions for "TSS Crowds" and "TSS Cars" to the nearby Frimley Lakeside Interntional Hotel - it is being used for a film location.
Another google search confirmed that a new film, The Secret Service, starring Colin Firth is being shot here.
The church was floodlit this evening, so I finally took the opportunity to stop. It wasn't until I got home and viewed the shots on the desktop that I noticed some filming taking place in the church doorway - could that be the great man, Colin Firth, himself? I'm not sure - press L and look large and make your own mind up
