Derwent Valley

I took a break at lunch today to enjoy the brighter weather and take this blip of Milford village and the now derelict Mill. I pass it on the way to work everyday

This cotton spinning Mill, like others along the valley was built by the Strutt family. Many of the houses were built by the Strutts, from the late 18th century onwards The Mill transformed Milford from a riverside hamlet into a company village. The Strutts also built the school, created several farms to supply produce for their workers, and helped establish the village’s various religious and social buildings. The school still functions well and is the long building at the back of the industrial buildings.
