Kirkstead Abbey
Today Lincoln Warrior and I went out for a drive to the village of Woodhall Spa, where I grew up. I walked around lots of my old haunts, many of which looked still the same, and many of which have changed-mostly for the better-beyond all recognition! It's gone from a sleepy, insular village to a still-quaint, but touristy type place. I guess they had to adapt or wither away, as so many other small villages have. They aim for the more genteel class of visitor as opposed to the type of demographic Blackpool or Skeggy may go for, with several swish hotels. The place has history, with strong ties to the Dambusters.
I could've gone for a shot of my old house, a park where I used to play, Dambusters memorials, the woods or the famous Kinema in the Woods, but I've chosen this pic of Kirkstead Abbey. This, and the ancient St Leonards church behind it, along with a nearby derelict house were some of my favourite hangouts as a kid. The whole area had - and still has - a wild kind of vibe!
