Jars Of Clay

Back in Istanbul, back in the Sultania Hotel and back in lazy mode, popping over the road for dinner at the New Hatay again.

It's an interesting little restaurant, sprawling along 2 streets, pretending to be lots of different restaurants, but all using the same menu and same kitchen. I think it's a family business with each son having his own section which he then staffs with his own sons.

They have a flaming claypot stew which is served with a lot of show. They bring it out on a flaming tray, then mess around with the ashes for a while. They take off the foil and pour out the juice. Then they twirl the pot in the flames once again, before tapping it several times with a poker and breaking open the end to reveal the meat and vegetables which they mix with the broth. Quite a spectacle to watch, and delicious to eat.

Oddly enough, I don't remember the clarinetist and drummer being there at the time!
