Bascilica San Miniato al Monte

Our anniversary today, and we had planned to take the day slow, but we did more than ever today. There was just so much to see. The Duomo first off, which was so immense but then the Bapistry next to it. We weren't expecting much from it but my goodness, we were blown away by the interior. None of my photos did it justice. It was the most beautiful ceiling and floor I have ever seen. If ever you are in Florence, do not miss the interior of the Bapistry. To the station to check train times, a little shopping and peak inside the Mercado Centrale... Then up Giotto's Bell Tower, which was an experience...

After that we meandered down to do a little shopping, then off up the hill to see the subject of this photo. It was also a really wonderful place to visit. So quiet and peaceful compared with the centre and unbelievably beautiful marble cladding inside and out. Amazing statues and frescos. not to mention the view of the city from it. Again, I would highly recommend it. We finished off at the Boboli Gardens, but it wasn't the relax in the sun we were hoping for - again just too much too see and do when by that time, all we really needed was to collapse in a wee heap. Still we really felt like we had seen the best of Florence.
