Last bit of summer

Put the garden to bed today, snipping the last geraniums for the pitcher. Cut back all the hostas as well so I don't wake up to slimy leaves once the frost hits. Apparently the wasps also decided summer was over. Saturday two wasps appeared out of nowhere but we were able to shoo them outside. Then T decided to put on a fire to test the new grate he purchased. Whoa what a surprise! Wasps everywhere. They must have nested in the chimney and came zooming out. We opened up doors and windows but they weren't too keen on the cool weather so a massacre ensued. No choice. Not to mention the ones trapped inside the mesh curtains who suffered in the inferno. All I can say is that it was swift. Other than that it was a beautiful weekend in the Midwest.
