Nicky and her Nikon

By NickyR

Hello again

After a long flight to Johannesburg and then a connecting flight to Durban we finally arrived at our destination. It was grey and raining in Durban but on the bright side our accommodation at the guest lodge is really good. It is well located, walking distance from Umhlanga village and the beach. Not that we will be going to the beach if this weather does not improve!

Shortly after we arrived the family arrived and it was lovely to see everyone again. The grannies were delighted to see the boys and it was pleasing to see that although my mum is looking thin, she is looking so much better than when I last saw her in June.

We spent the day sitting inside chatting and having tea while the rain poured outside, showing photos and catching up on the news. This is a photo of my lovely niece Bianca and her fiancé - they are getting married next Easter.

Gavin took my mum back to her home in time to get her injections and now we are waiting for the take-away curry that we have ordered for supper. Durban is quite famous for it's curry as it is 'the largest 'Indian' city outside India'. Many Indians in South Africa are descended from Indians who arrived in South Africa from 1860 onwards as indentured labourers to work on the sugarcane plantations of Natal.

I am behind in commenting on journals and I will try to catch up as the week goes on
