Looking for colour

A fairly dull day most of the time and some intermittent drizzle kept me indoors until about 4pm when there was a burst of stormy sunshine. Just enough to grab a couple of shots of the few remaining fuschia flowers against the depths of a dark laurel hedge.

The half/half effect is a deliberate attempt to indicate contrasts of the day. There were a couple of highlights that I lost by increasing the black contours. Actually I used the word 'increased' to suggest skill and judgement. The truth is, I fiddled about until I thought it looked right.
