"Footballing days fondly remembered"
Tom had the local "open all hours" shop for donkey's years. Now he's in a wheelchair but "everyone" in the vicinity young and old stop and chat to him from early morning to very late. Dad played football with Tom on St Mary's field. Dad said one of St Mary's priests were referee. Albert Earl played half back and wow he could kick a ball !!!. Bert Reddington was captain, Jim Woodward played right half, and full back !! They won the catholic league a couple of times. Father Kelly also played for them. Dad played right half, Derek Fletcher played full back. Goalie was Eric Blackburn a Canadian. Couple of priests father Quinn and Father Kelly were sometimes unable to play extra time because they had to take Mass !!
Dads brother Frank played even though he was much younger. Dad said the pitch was awful to play on because it was on a huge slant so when they got chance to play downhill in second half Albert used to score no problem.
Bert Reddington used to say see you next week lads, same time, same place ... Any alterations to the team and I'll put them up in Nellie Harris's chip shop window. !!
Happy Days :))))
