Banded Mongoose (Mungos Mungo)

I backblipped Friday, Saturday and Sunday, please do look at these links, we saw beautiful and rare animals!

Our last day at Dikhololo arrived just too suddenly!

We got up quite early, showered and packed the car. We drove over to M&K's (Lets.Tryit) chalet at 08:00 to see if they were ready to go. We planned a nice formal breakfast at the Resort Restaurant, then hand in our keys and leave for home!

But a nice and eventually quite funny surprise turned up just as we were ready to leave M&K's chalet! ;-)

As soon as K locked the door to their chalet, we heard something similar to a 'little stampede'! Looking up, we saw between 50 and 60 of these little creatures running towards us! What a sight!!

Just next to the chalet is a water tap with basin where they drink, I suppose that is where they were heading! But as soon as they reached us, they discovered some leftovers of breadcrumbs and seeds we left for the birds. They couldnt believe their luck, and were feasting away, at our feet! Such a lovely Blippertunity!!

We stayed a while, to watch them, when C saw one underneath K's car and she said we must better chase them away they will eat the electric wiring of the car, but suddenly the little mongoose disappeared into the engine of the car!!

R snr opened the driver's door and pressed on the horn, to scare them off, about 20 of them appeared from under the car and ran off! Then R heard some commotion in the car's engine, K opened the engine, and guess what? Six of them were sitting on top of the engine, feasting on little insects on the engine!! R blew the horn once more, and they all fled!

Needless to say, we jumped in our cars and sped off before they could return! Hehehehe!!!

I will published more great photos later today on Flickr if you want to see more 'Game species' shot (with camera) by me this weekend! ;-)
