First Day of School
I'm sure there are millions of kids going back to school today. And there are quite a few Moms and Dads out there who are breathing a sigh of relief.
I am one of those parents. My daughter is now in full day Kindergarten, my son in second grade, and I am officially in euphoria! They balanced their over weight back packs upon their shoulders and teetered out the door to the end of the drive to wait for the bus thirty minutes before it was due. Both kids were excited, talking about everything from what they'd eat first from their packed lunches, finding friends in their classroom, to the logistics of finding a seat on the bus. We all followed the watch closely, reporting every passing minute. Again, Lewis asked if I might please stand far back away from him when the bus comes, but I used Alyssa as my excuse to stay close and snap a picture or two. Oh the embarrassment he must have endured when finally we heard the heavy engine and then confirmed with our own eyes, the famous yellow school bus and flashing lights; we all let out a squeal.
And as the stop sign swung out to stop traffic, my babies climbed aboard. Just like that -it was over.
I turned with a little tear in my eye & slapped a high five with my sweetheart. He headed off to the office and I headed back to a very quiet house. Boo hoo for maybe 15 seconds, Woo hoo for hopefully 12 to 13 years, the count down starts...
now.
