Taking the cows home . . .
Definitely the end of the summer now. That's the cows and their calves going in for the winter. The next time they see fresh grass and feel the sun on their backs will be May: it's a long time to be inside but better that than being out in knee deep mud in the wind, rain, sleet and snow.
Very much a family affair, this trek homewards, on a very cold and windy day. Mother and daughter walked in front with a sack of feed, diving into gateways to keep the cows on the straight and narrow, dad and grandchildren followed along behind. Ollie and I did our bit by standing in a few gateways too - he likes to pretend he could be a working dog!
