The struggles are worth it.

At this stage the start of the track and feild season I think seeing Millie struggle is well worth it. Today we traveled to Christchurch for the opening of the interclub athletics summer season, Millie ran in a 2000m race and found it difficult due to an ongoing respiritory infection and a change in her Asthma medication. 2000m is a difficult race as the 1500m runners will run it hard, Millie ran the first 400m in 73 secs which was far too fast and this showed up, but once she realised what she had done, Millie settled down in her work and ran conistant times for the other 4 laps. We needed Millie to run on the grass track as the Canterbury 3000m will be held on this track and the difference is when you run on the grass and not the all weather track, you have to run harder for a slower time. Millie said she ran like she used the S word and had trouble with her breathing but yet her legs felt like they could go faster a sign that she is fit and strong. One goal we are going to work very hard for is to get Millie into the new Zealand Team to the World Juniors next year and this is going to be a huge challenge for me as I have only ever coached 2 people.
