Incandescent
Well, some people are slightly miffed apparently.
This one has sneaked slightly under the radar, for me at least.
From the 1st of September new EU regulations mean that buying a simple 100 watt incandescent light bulb is going to be a lot more difficult. Unless they adhere to strict energy efficiency guidelines you won't be able to buy them. People have been out stockpiling years worth (15 years in one instance) of the things as there are claims that the new low energy type bulbs bring on everything from migraine to swine flu. Cue massive sales through Ebay of 'scarce' 150w Opal bulbs.
Can't say that I've noticed any side effects of having them in place, apart from maybe saving a few pennies on our annual electricity bill. A quick bulb count around the house and we've seemingly got around 41 of various sizes, shapes and energy consumption. Much more than I would have first guessed for our 3 bedroom semi.
Still, when the kids manage to have them all switched on at once in every room in the house I think energy saving bulbs are the way to go.
