But where 's Johnny?

I love it when our local farm shop stocks these strings of onions and garlic.. and today I bought one of each. I always think it would be fun to paint them..might have to have a go this time before eating them !!

I remember at this time of year seeing the Onion Johnny cycling round London with strings of onions hanging off his bicycle and selling them to anyone who wanted to buy them.. so sad that we don't see them any more. In the 1930's there were reportedly 1500 onion Johnnies who would travel over from Brittany to sell their crop of onions and now there are only around a dozen left..
