Ullswater Residential Day 4
Well the sun has shined on the righteous today and we made the most of it!
My group were up and about early this morning for activities - and because of a change of team I was faced with the Leap of Faith again! Yesterday I'd reached the halfway mark of the telegraph pole and today I was determined to beat my record. With some real support (and skullduggery) from the children and instructors, I was coaxed right to the top of the pole! OK, no amount of faith was getting me stood on the top; nor jumping for the trapeze - but I felt a certain sense of achievement as my knocking knees felt my feet on the ground!
A further trip on the Ullswater Lake was in order this afternoon as we paddled our canoe to a jetty some way from the centre. Here we learned a little of the Bear Grylls style Bush Craft and enjoyed a peaceful few moments by the lake with our hot chocolate before paddling back (Or in my case being paddled back by the boys manning our canoe - there have to be SOME perks to being a teacher on this kind of trip you know!)
We've finished the night with a campfire - complete with songs, sketches and toasted marshmallows!
I shan't be sad to go home tomorrow. But despite the trials of looking after 26 children away from home, have some treasured memories of the 2013 residential! Don't expect too much from tomorrow's blip - I'll be happy with a bath, a glass of red and an early night!
