La vida de Annie

By Annie

Velvet...

... is what this feels like, the nose of the beautiful thoroughbred black Menorcan horse. We went to see some at a breeding stables, and watched a demonstration of the dressage techniques they are taught - see this link for an idea of what they can do. The horses are used in the many summer fiestas on the island, where they perform in the jaleo, rearing up on their hind legs and walking while waving the forelegs; spectators try to touch the exposed chest as this is thought to bring good luck, not getting trampled being part of it I would think. More details of the breed here.

Fabulously hot and sunny here today; hope the Bank Holiday in the UK is as good.
