Winkworth Arboretum

This morning I went to see the autumn colours at Winkworth Arboretum. It is a National Trust property that is famous for its autumn colours - but not today. Perhaps I was too early in the season, or the colours are not going to be great this year due to the very hot summer that we had. There is a boat house on a small lake that is usually surrounded by the fiery colours of autumn, but today it was just all green. My favourite shot of the day was of some geese pecking at seed outside the boat house, but I decided to show you the view from the arboretum over the Surrey hills.

Does anyone ever look at the Staff Picks? They are usually a superb collection of photos that really are worth seeing. I wonder who the staff member is who chooses these photos. I imagine someone with an excellent critical eye, trawling through thousands and thousands of photos and hand picking the chosen few. It cannot be an algorithm like Spotlight as that, like any computer generated choice, often gets it so wrong. I think the choice of the 'random' button under the journals should rather be changed to 'Staff Picks' and more should be chosen. Random is just so...well random. And we already have the choice of 'upload' so 'random' is a bit pointless.

Better in large I think
