Film night

I have been to the cinema with a friend tonight. There is this Dutch film, it is a film about new wildlife in Holland.

In 1968 we claimed land from the water. Apparently we claimed too much land, because a large piece of it was left alone, not knowing exactly what to do with it (some industrial plans fell through). The land was left alone for quite some time and a beautiful natural area developed. The worth of it was acknowledged and it became a nature reserve. Koniks horses, red deer and Heck cattle were released. Other animals like foxes and a large colony of white egrets came of their accord. Also the white tailed eagle raised a nest of young last year and this year!

It was awesome to see this film about the area and the wildlife in it. Most part of the area is not accessible to humans, it it there solely for the wildlife. Looking at the images it seems very unreal that we host such huge herds of large animals on Dutch plains...
