Heads and Tails
Having been told about some superb fungi positively littering the ground up on May Hill on the western edge of Gloucestershire I trotted up there with the dogs this afternoon.
This famous landmark is a hill 296m high - seen for miles around it is capped with a copse of pine trees planted in 1887 in commemoration of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. Strategically planted seats seats too let you enjoy the views. Wonderfully quiet with only the noise of the ravens and occasional crow, it was so very beautiful calming and peaceful!
Seeing these two common darters at a small pond on the way up to the summit I was fractionally diverted!! Clambering through the boggy ground to the water's edge I made the mistake of letting go of the dog leads and they both thought it was huge fun rolling in all the mud! Hilarious but only if you are a dog and not the owner of a clean car!
There were some positively huge parasol mushrooms about 25cms across which were very impressive but not the specific mushrooms I was hoping to find.
Needs to be seen larger!
