Heartbreak Tree

Disappointing light today, overcast and dull. The image required a bit of faffery.

I've passed this tree and it's "bleeding heart" countless times driving back and forth to the school where I worked before my disability retirement and where my wife still works. The wound on the tree trunk is pretty much the height you would expect from a car's bumper crashing into it. I've always wondered whether it was the work of a lover who saw the potential to declare his unending love or is a memorial celebrating the life of someone who died in a car crash.

I hope it's the mischief of young love .... and the adventure continues.
