Burning Bridges
The title will be understood by my fellow Team Colin friends. The day we made many enemies and became really good friends by doing so.
I have much love for our group, we went through a lot of stuff together and were lucky enough to all get on incredibly well, with no difficulties. It's a good entry to talk about this, because today we started getting into the everyday rhythm of the project. This entailed three things:
1) Heading to Colin's house everyday (usually via boda-boda) and working there all day on our projects.
2) Having meals together at the uptown places of Fort Portal: Garden's, Mountains of the Moon and of course Dutchess. There was also Little Rock but I can't call that place uptown.
3) Going out at least every other night to Forest Club or Don's Plaza, and ending either in Africana or Club Ecstasy. Then heading back to the hostel around 3am and probably making too much noise, prompting other guests to yell at us. Engineers on tour.
So today was exactly that. Work included going out to the hardware stores with a hacksaw and measuring tape to buy a galvanized steel rod for our drive shaft. We also managed to seek out a guy living in a hut to see if he could cast us some propellers out of aluminum.
In the evening, we were joined by an Irish guy called Grant at the hostel to have some drinks. We invented a game involving placing Nile bottles on the ping pong table and drinking when your bottle gets hit by the ball, pretty genius. The 10 of us went out to Forest Club, already buzzing from the Nile and new atmosphere (and Amarulla which Shree and me shared). The rest of the night was a mess, but one of our best.
Don't get the wrong impression though, if any quote can describe our two weeks with Colin, it was "work hard, play hard." In other words, the only way to work properly with Colin. Two of my best weeks this year.
peace
