Pawnee Buttes

A beautiful afternoon at Pawnee Buttes in Northeastern Colorado, with a group of great people.

Energy exploration in the form of oil and gas drilling has reached alarmingly close to the Buttes from the south and west. A large wind farm graces the North and Northeast directions.

The need for energy is real and constant and we need it to live a comfortable life. Still it is very sad to see it encroach so close to a place just as sacred as the snow caped peaks to the west in Rocky Mountain National Park. Steppe environments worldwide continue to be compromised because they don't have the grandeur of a canyon or snow caped peak, or the cathedral like qualities of an old growth forest, still they are important and worth saving.
