at three o'clock in the morning?
The idea appears to have been that bicycles approaching from the east should stay to the left of the tramlines and head into the combination ASL/taxi rank, whereupon they can then (after waiting a couple of minutes for the light) cross the tracks at a less oblique angle, at lower speed, without impatient twunts in cars breathing up their bottoms. However, everyone knows what happens when you present a taxi driver with an advanced stop line, and the ability to access the facility without having to cross a tramline is somewhat reduced when taxis are parked all the way back along the road beyond the official rank with their offside wheels well beyond the nearsidemost side of the track. Presumably leaving any part of their cab beyond the yellow dotted line marking the swept path of the tram is a mistake a cab driver is only likely to make once.
