A combination of a laptop screen and a circular polariser filter and a good hunt around for that now historic method of recording music, the cassette....

Anyone remember the cassingle?

I did do something very similar to this many years ago at university, the polarised light is showing the internal stresses in the plastic. I used it as a very primitive method of showing the stress in a structure. I had to do it with a film camera, and two polarising filters borrowed from one of the science labs.
