How do I get down
Bad night last night. We headed south out of the harbour and it was a rough transit for most of the night. This wasn't helped by being really tired and still having an upset stomach.
Lasted till around 4am before exploding. This then added to the seasick feeling.
Woke up at 6 to get ready for the dive briefing and had a sea sick pill. Took an hour or so before it kicked in and I could function.
First dive was just a check out dive and went OK.
Second dive was to go and find some sea horses and sea lions. It was great to see the sea lions at the end of the dive.
Had lunch as we started to head off to the next dive location. This meant that I had to quickly finish lunch before having to head back up stairs to find a horizon before feeling sick.
As things were running late it meant the last dive was not that long after the late lunch. Decided not to go on the dive and instead they took us out on the squidgy to see the sea lions and perhaps an elephant seal that was meant to be on the island.
Great to see the sea lions run in to the water to fend us of with loads of barking. Had a great hour photographing them as the sun went down. Loads of seals and the young ones were very cute.
Back to the boat for dinner before downloading the photos. Found out the plan of the holiday is to get to the bottom of the Sea of Cortez as quickly as possible. This means another few nights of travel and bad night’s sleep by the sounds of things.
Dive 1
Piedra Del Angel
Start time 9.39
Max depth 21.3m
Dive time 62 min
Temp 27
Normal sort of checkout dive. All the diving is done from squidgy’s here, so you kit up on the main boat and then sit on the inflatable with your kit and fins on ready to go.
Over the side and down to around 20m. Saw some small blue jaw fish coming out of their holes and a couple of larger white ones.
Had a hunt around for some other things. J managed to find some mating black and blue slow worms.
No octopus this dive but a few of the other normal tropical fish.
Not the best dive for viz only around 10m. Just the normal sort of check out dive
Dive 2
La Vela
Start time 14.04
Max depth 24.1m
Dive time 62 min
Temp 26
Dive to go and see some sea lions this time. Dropped over and had a swim around. Saw some shrimp’s nice moray under a rock almost free swimming. Another moray in a hole.
Saw a nice bulls eye stingray sitting on the rocks. More jaw fish.
Best part of the dive was the 15 minutes at the end playing with the sea lions.
Had quite a few of them coming down to see us having a look and then turning on a penny and fining off.
First time we have dived with them and looking forward to some more encounters hopefully.
