Redcar Tarn - Keighley
Had a walk around Redcar Tarn, Keighley this afternoon. The sun shone, but the wind was distinctly chilly.
The duck/geese/gull/tern/coot population was as large as I've ever seen it.
On the banks of the tarn can be found this concrete canoe which looks rather strange.
On investigating I find that, in years gone by, the tarn was used for boating.
There was a boathouse, which has now been demolished, a jetty and a place where canoes were moulded. There were three concrete canoe moulds originally - built in the 1920's. This is the only one remaining and was discovered in 1972.
It's amazing it's still there 90 years on, but the concrete is showing clear signs of age.
Needs to be viewed 'Large'.
