The Haunted Mansion

So today was our first day to discover the new guest assistance programme for kids with disabilities. I'll write more tomorrow, but suffice to say, waiting an hour just to get a photo card for Reuben with the promise that when returning every 2 weeks, we'll have to do the same all over again.

That aside, a great day was had by all on Splash Mountain, Roger Rabbit (Reuben's favourite), Pirates, Star Tours (my favourite especially since today the enemy that they picked out in the spaceship was Callum, sitting there with his Jack Sparrow costume on with thready bum hanging out), Buzz and here, the surreal experience of Halloween come Christmas at the Haunted Mansion.

Given Reuben's obvious medical issues, we were given 6 fast passes for the day which made it much easier, just as it had been with the old system of the Guest Assistance Card where we accessed the ride via the disabled entrance and had but minutes to wait for rides, except that we had to wait an hour for the photo ID card and interview first. Reuben's great walking around - he hasn't needed a stroller since he was 2 despite his disabilities and we always walk the full day at Disneyland - since it's good, ambient, low impact exercise for him. But standing still in the sun is no fun for anyone. Needless to say he bore it with upmost patience, the department in which he bears saintly credits.
