Let them eat....

...cake ice cream!

My son requested ice cream cake this year for his birthday party with his friends. This one was rather simple: an Oreo cookie crust, a layer of vanilla ice cream, a layer of crushed cookies and chopped kit-kat candy bars, then a layer of chocolate ice cream, all topped with chocolate fondant and garnished with more cookies and candy.

The teens who came over this afternoon devoured most of it, but thankfully left me a slice to indulge photograph. Personally, I prefer more interesting flavors in leui of the vanilla. It's really yummy with mint ice cream and thin mint Girl Scout cookies, or a crust of Nutter-butter cookies and a peanut-butter swirl ice cream. Vanilla ice cream can be good if paired with Ginger snap cookies, toffee, and a layer of butter pecan or caramel ice cream. But it can be hard here in Germany to find diverse cookies. I need to remember to get some brought over the next time American friends are visiting :)
