Dussehra 2013

Today is the Hindu festival of Dussehra, which ends in burning, brimstone and fireworks....

I would be found standing at this park in New Delhi if I wasn't house hunting...

Marky Mark has sent and allowed me to use this picture of the event...

The festival closing ceremony is dangerous to say the least... I'm sure you will be reading of injuries and loss of life in the papers tomorrow...

Dussehra is a major Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil.

On this very day, Lord Rama defeated and killed the demon Ravana...

It is said that in ancient times there was a great king known as ‘Rama’.

During his exile period with his wife goddesses ‘Sita’ and brother ‘Laxman’ used to live in the forest.

But one day a dreadful king named as the Ravana, took away Sita with him.

This made Rama angry and he attacked Ravana.

After long battle, finally Rama killed Ravana, and the day he killed Ravana is marked as the Dussehra.

From that day, Dussehra has been celebrated with great devotion, joy and is among the major festivals in Hindu culture.

Take care out there....
