7th Annual Vicarage Conker Championship

Harvest Festival this morning, another good collection to help with the food bank.

Weather wise it was touch and go for the conker championship this afternoon. At 12.30pm it was raining and I thought we would need to move into the church. However, we're a hardy lot and the rain had stopped by 2pm so we were outside in my garden.

Only twelve people taking part this year, a lot less than usual, so two of the first round losers had another chance to win their way into the second round. I made it to the second round but my conker was already looking worse for wear (bottom left!). Needless to say I didn't last round two. I wouldn't mind but for both rounds my opponents didn't actually hit my conker, it was the act of me hitting theirs that did the damage!

We have a full spectrum of ages taking part and the winner is presented with the trophy, which is engraved each year. Serious business this! As this was my last competition I had a new conker and played the champion .... I lost again! That means I've lost eight times in seven competitions!!! I admit defeat! :-(

It was a fun afternoon and rain held off, just. It started raining about 15 minutes after we finished.

Last year's championship.
