The Long Road South

12 hours through the night to get to Puerto Montt from Santiago, but my god the seat was comfy and brilliant. I somehow managed to book the front row window seat of a double decker coach, and got to sit back and watch as several regions of chile rolled by, the landscape gradually shifting from this brown and rocky terrain into grassland, and then pine forests. A splattering of rain against the window let me know I was in Los Lagos. After getting to Puerto Montt I said goodbye to the rambling Canadian conspiracy theorist I'd shared the ride down with (a particular winner of his was that Hitler was put in power by US banking interests), and hopped on a minibus to Puerto Varas, my new home.
