Can You Fit a Queen-sized Mattress into a Prius?
It seemed like a good
idea at 4 AM.
The answer is yes!

Mulling over the prospect of replacing the mattress in the travel trailer in the wee hours of the morning seemed entirely feasible. I just needed the measurements. Off I went to the foam shop mid morning in my wee Prius. 'No,' I'd said confidently, 'I'm sure I can get that into the car!'
The lady at the foam shop was very encouraging. She trimmed up the slab to my specifications. She bent the new slab over and we taped it around a few times to make it a more manageable bundle. We slid it back into the plastic wrap and, each taking an end, carried it out through the store and out the front door where my Prius was parked nearby. I opened the back door and we slid the bundle across the back seat. It stuck out both sides like an over-sized hot dog on a under-sized bun. The helpful lady went around to the other side of the car to push it tight to the door and squeeze the door shut. I then did the same on my side, heaving against the door with my full weight. I jumped into the driver's seat and quickly locked the door expecting it might suddenly spring open with the contained forced of the compacted mattress. I had but a few blocks to go to get it 'home'. Easy Peasey!!
